Full-Day Adventure through Inca History and Sacred Landscapes
4:00 AM – Pick-Up from Your Hotel (Cusco or Sacred Valley)
We start early with a hotel pick-up to ensure the best weather conditions for the hike. Your journey begins with scenic views of the Andes as we make our way to Ollantaytambo.
6:00 AM – Arrival in Ollantaytambo & Buffet Breakfast
We’ll stop in Ollantaytambo town for a nutritious buffet breakfast to energize before the hike.
7:30 AM – Arrival at Cachicata Village (Trailhead)
Our hike begins from the small village of Cachicata. The first section is a steady uphill climb. As we say, “The earlier, the better”—this section is best done before the sun gets strong. If needed, an emergency horse is available during this uphill portion.
7:30 AM – 1:00 PM – Ascent to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku)
After a challenging but rewarding hike, we reach the Sun Gate of Ollantaytambo. Here, your guide will provide a deep historical and spiritual explanation of this sacred site. Take time to connect with the mountain spirits (Apus), meditate in peace, and enjoy panoramic views of Wakaywillka Glacier while having your fresh box lunch.
1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Descent to Wilcamayu Inca Bridge via Cachicata Quarry
Begin the descent through an original Inca Trail segment, visiting the ancient Inca quarry, and observing masterfully carved stones that were used in Ollantaytambo’s construction. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of the Patacancha Valley, the Sacred Valley, and the unique Paqaritampu Pyramid, believed to be the “Gateway to Another Dimension.”
Continue downhill for approximately 9.5 km, and explore the Inca cemetery of Cachicata, where you’ll see preserved Inca mummies under massive stone outcrops—a site few travelers get to visit.
4:00 PM – Optional Stop at Cervecería del Valle
If time permits and you’re interested, we’ll visit the famous Cervecería del Valle, one of the best craft breweries in Peru, for a quick tasting session of locally brewed beers.
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM – Return to Your Hotel
After a full day of exploration, we drive you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
